Ma Po Dou Fu

I cleaned out the back porch sun room after work and moved the piles of construction left overs that have been tucked away in the corner to their new home, tucked away in the corner of the newly organized garage.

Both project were a year overdue and it feels great to have them done.

Tonight I’m  having my first  dinner in the sunroom. Ma Po Dou Fu – spicy tofu and pork with Sichuan peppercorns.  Brown off some ground pork (or beef) add ginger, chili bean sauce, chili flakes, fermented black beans, soy sauce and sugar.  Add soft tofu and stock or water and simmer for 10 minutes. Then add Sichuan peppercorns which aren’t actually peppercorns and they aren’t “hot” in the normal sense but they numb the tongue.

The result was a lot of total umami yummy goodness.

More wee sprouts coming up in the garden.  And radishes are just about ready to eat.  More pics of the garden soon.

Try saying “numb the tongue’ after eating it!
